CALVIN 500TH BIRTHDAY SERVICE JOHNSTOWN PAThe 500th Birthday Anniversary of John Calvin will be observed at the Johnstown-Windber Hungarian Reformed Church on 19 July 2009. It does not immediately follow the 10th due to the church’s schedule.
Bishop Ludwig will preach at the 8:45 AM Lordf’s Day Service, and meet afterward with the congregation.

News From Debrecen – Constituting Synod
The following press release was received after the May 22nd Uniting Synod in Debrecen, Hungary.
Mr. Lehel Deak, Synod Presbyter of the Calvin Synod summarized the highlights of the press release for English readers in this way:
With the motto: “Christ is the future, we follow Him together” a historic moment has taken place in Debrecen this past Friday, when representative leaders of Hungarian Reformed Churches of the traditionally Hungarian territories of the Carpathian Basin have signed onto the Constitution of the Unified Hungarian Reformed Church. The only exemption is the Church from the SlovakRepublic. The tenth signatory of the document was the Hungarian Reformed Church in America.
The Calvin Synod’s Auxiliary Bishop, Rt. Rev. Joseph Vasarhely attended as an observer.

Az Alkotmányozó Zsinat üzenete
Isten iránti hálával adjuk hírül, hogy ma, 2009. május 22-én, 11.00 órakor a magyarországi, kárpátaljai, délvidéki, erdélyi és partiumi részegyházak aláírták a Magyar Református Egyház Alkotmányát. Ezzel a lépéssel, közel 20 évi fáradozás után, mi, magyar reformátusok évszázados közösségünket ebben a formában juttatjuk kifejezésre. A magyar reformátusság a reformáció évszázadától megtartotta
lelki, szellemi egységét. Összetartozásunkat még történelmi viszontagságok és politikai szándékok sem tudták kikezdeni, így a trianoni döntés és 2004. december 5-i népszavazás sem tudta szétzilálni közösségünket. Ezt a közösségünket kifejezi az is,
hogy ma együtt ünnepelünk azokkal is, akik már kifejezték csatlakozási szándékukat vagy még ezt idáig nem tudták megtenni.
Ma ezzel a közös alkotmánnyal is kifejezzük és megszilárdítjuk egységünket.
Alkotmányunk szerint:
• Egyházunk tagja minden keresztyén, aki a magyar református egyházhoz tartozónak vallja magát, éljen bárhol a világban, és legyen magyar vagy más
• Egyházunk a csatlakozó részegyházak zsinati közössége, amely. törvényt alkot és megnyilatkozik mindazokban a kérdésekben, melyekre a részegyházak legmagasabb szint? testületei felhatalmazzák.
• Egyházunk alkotmánya biztosítja és szabályozza a Kárpát-medencén kívüli magyar református egyházak csatlakozását is.
• Bels? szervezeti rendszerük kialakításában a részegyházak önállóak és
függetlenek. Kivételt képeznek ez alól mindazon kérdések, amelyek a közös alkotmányba vagy közös szabályzásra tartoznak.
Jézus Krisztus mondja: Én vagyok az út, az igazság és az élet. Hisszük és valljuk, hogy Krisztus igazsága szabadít meg minden igazságtalanságból és nyomorúságból.
Hisszük, hogy gyógyító hatalma megteremti Benne való egységünket is. Hisszük, hogy ha ?t követjük a megbékélés eszközei lehetünk minden körülmények között.
Hisszük, hogy a magyar reformátusság összefogása Jézus Krisztus egyetemes egyházának egységét és hiteles bizonyságtételét szolgálja, melynek mindnyájan

Contemporary Music Concert Calvin Reformed Norwalk CT
CONTEMPORARY SPIRITUAL CONCERT
To Benefit Star Incorporated
May 17, 2009, 4 PM
at Calvin Reformed Church
19 Lexington Ave. Norwalk, CT.
Five bands will be leading a concert on May 17, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at the Calvin Reformed Church located at 19 Lexington Ave. in Norwalk, Ct. A professional band called “Remembering” will be leading off the concert. It is composed of Tom Mackno, Pete Klein, Sam Wuhrer and Frank Carmine.
A youth band called “Redeemed” will follow. Other groups that will perform are “Impact” from Kingdom Refuge Ministries, Laurie Cellini and John Maci from Stamford and a group from Star called “Rubberband.” The concert will conclude with a sing-along led by Pete Klein. Refreshment will be served.
There is plenty of parking behind the church. There is no admission, but a free-will offering will be taken to benefit Star. For further information call the church at 203-838-6769. Everyone is welcome!
Star Inc is a not for profit organization working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
West Side Hungarian Reformed Mother’s Day Service & Luncheon
This coming Sunday, May 10, is Mother`s Day. A combined worship service will be held at 11 AM, followed by a festive luncheon in the Calvin Center as it is our custom. If you did not sign up yet, but wish to participate, contact me immediately! Donations: Adults – $12, Children (ages 7 to 13) – $6, Children (under 7) and students of the Sunday School – Free!

Hungarian Reformed Church Plans Constituting Synod
The announcement was recently made regarding plans for a “Constituting Synod of the Hungarian Reformed Church”. The Synodical gathering designed to unify the Hungarian Reformed Churches world wide under a common confession, constitution, and standards. It will meet May 22nd, 2009 in Debrecen.

The 71st meeting of the Calvin Synod ends in 2009 as the Debrecen gathering begins. When asked how this proposed constitution will affect the life of the Calvin Synod, Rt. Rev. Karl Ludwig commented:
Calvin Synod will be represented at the meeting. We are and continue to be involved in the World-Wide Reformed fellowship.

Vision Statement
How we understand this powerfull expression of the communion we have since the time of the reformation? The fellowship we never gave up? Read the Mission Statement to get an insight!
In the unity of the church the credibility of its witness is strengthened. We share this vision with the worldwide reformed family in its uniting process toward the World Communion of Reformed Churches, with the wider fellowship of the protestant Churches in Europe and with the worldwide Church of our Lord, Jesus Christ. In the year of the 500th Anniversary of the birth of John Calvin, God’s prominent servant committed to unity, we will give a sign of hope and encouragement to rebuild the “bond of unity” within the reformed family and beyond.
It is not by chance that the Hungarian Reformed people traditionally laid accent on their fellowship and unity. Yet, in the last centuries we were given the possibility to live out our communion in different measure.
The Hungarian reformed community since the time of the Reformation lived constantly on the territory of different states, in a church law in defined community with those nationalities in the Carpathian Basin became followers of the Reformation. The church bodies which lived in a forced organizational division after the Reformation could establish a united church structure first in 1881, year of the foundation of the structurally united Hungarian Reformed Church. The church unity has been broken again after the First World War when the church just like the country was torn apart and constrained to live in separated church bodies. Yet, the reformed community never gave up unity in faith, witness, service and life. The joining churches will maintain their legal status and registration in their respected countries.
We will give expression to this communion in celebrating our unity and constituting the Hungarian Reformed Church on the 22nd of May. With this symbolic act we would like to encourage others seeking communion in the one body of Christ. The Constituting Synod will be celebration of thanksgiving completed by the Holy Communion.
The strengthening of the unity of the Hungarian reformed fellowship is an important step on a spiritual journey. The constitution, the common synod, the common liturgy and hymnbook, the cooperation in the field of the educations of pastors are new forms of practicing communion. Our cooperation in the field of diaconia and mission will make our service in the society more effective and credible.
After having entered the European Union 5 years ago we believe that the time has come for regional cooperation across national boundaries. Therefore we hope to contribute in a churchlike manner to the reconciliation needed so much in our region.
