2009 Lakeside Classis Meeting Report

The Spring Meeting of the Lakeside Classis of the Calvin Synod Conference UCC has been held today, February 7, 2009, at the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Walton Hills, Ohio. The Pastor of the hosting Congregation, Rev. Csaba Krasznai delivered the message of “Unity” during the opening worship service based on Philippians 2:1-4.

Our prayers were offered for and concerns expressed because of the hospitalization of the Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi. Get well soon! At the meeting four Congregations, the Hungarian Reformed Churches of Lorain, Fairport Harbor, Cleveland, and Walton Hills were represented by delegates and representatives. Pulpits are vacant in the churches of Dayton & Columbus. Buffalo is also “alive & well”.

The Lakeside Classis took action to offer help to these sister churches by sending there lay representatives who will deliver messages of encouragement and a donation. Rt. Rev. Koloman K. Ludwig, in his “State of the Calvin Synod” message stated, that we ought to support each other, as well as the Fraternities of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, and the William Penn Association. The Rev. Imre A. Bertalan in his “State of the Bethlen Communities” report delivered good news of “Four years of growth and development”, sharing with us the positive acheivements of the past, the exceptional service the Bethlen Communities provide in the Ligonier, PA area, and current plans for the future.

Rev. Bertalan also shared the thought-provoking topic of “Our Purpose Driven Churches”, the characteristics of Living versus Dying Churches. During the `Congregational Sharing` lay delegates reported on the events of the individual churches since the last, Fall meeting. Two guest Ministers, The Rev`s Gabor Nitsch and Albert Kovacs were also in attendance. God willing, the Fall meeting of the Lakeside Classis will be held on October 24, 2009 hosted by Fairport Harbor. God be with you till we meet again!

Yours in Christ
